Roaming Control Center
Operator Challenge:
Consumers are becoming more data dependent as the demand for online information including video, messaging, social media sites, location based services, gaming and apps continues its exponential growth. Helping to fuel this dramatic progression is the accelerated adoption of smart phones and tablets as portals to this ever expanding data world.
As a result, mobile operators are now challenged with a growing number of data roaming challenges as mobile subscribers demand the same level of service as they travel beyond their home service coverage, increasing network congestion and imperiling the quality of service to the roaming provider’s home subscriber base. The challenge for carriers is gaining greater insight into roaming subscribers in order to develop new service offerings, increase subscriber ARPU, and ensure service quality.
Aicent’s Roaming Control Center (RCC) gives carriers the tools necessary to move beyond rudimentary data steering and more towards intelligent IP services. With RCC carriers now have the ability to institute real-time volume controls including inbound and outbound data throttling, capabilities to better monitor and control access to specific applications, and balance the use of network resources and charges.
Aicent Solution:
An extension of the Roaming Intelligence Suite (RIS), Aicent’s Roaming Control Center brings the RIS value-added service to a new level by allowing both adaptive and active roaming policies to be applied to each individual roaming subscriber.
With Aicent’s RCC, mobile operators can control operating costs by cutting off undesired roaming sessions, avoiding stiff roaming charges, and creating new roaming revenue streams by offering creative roaming service packages and utilizing RCC’s versatile roaming policy enforcement functions.
By combining the passive monitoring features and the active data session control functions, mobile operators can create and enforce a roaming policy for inbound or outbound roaming subscribers at both the operator and subscriber levels. The adaptive roaming policy enforcement capability, when applied to data roaming in real-time, allows operators to provide data roaming service packages that either save operating costs from high data roaming charges or generate new data roaming revenue from subscribers who did not use data roaming when traveling.
